Say Ahhh... (A Look at the Health-Care Lollapalooza)

I have finally decided to pay close attention to the health care noise south of the border. As a Canuck, I have my own particular view on the circus that is called a debate in the US of A. This does not mean that I understand it, but I appreciate the show. It always intrigues me how you manage to protest against your own best interests. I would be willing to bet that many of the people against the reforming interests of the White House have Medicare and are out of work (how else would they have the time to protest?). Silliness and stupidity have a particular charm.
Ignorance does not. And I am getting more and more agitated by the ugly streak behind the protests. There are now threats against senators who voted for the bill and there have been other incidents of spitting on members of government. This should concern anyone who wonders about what it means to be in a democracy. Civility has to brought back into the mix.

A Long Time Between Things (And The Reasons Why)

To one and all:
Yes, it has been a long time since I have written here. I followed the Winter Olympics - after a point - and realized that I was leaving my best comments to all of my Facebook friends (all less-than-100 of them). Also, there were other dramas: a student who expected me to meet him on Sunday nights, or just wait for him and see if he would show up; a tragedy in the family (might help if I leave a link for it here); a bit more work with contracts and assessments of students (private and public); and my laptop threw up (best way of describing what happened - too much to mention here). So, I have been away.
But I am now back. I have decided to go to either the library or one of the offices where I work to write up whatever I have on paper or thought up for the day. A good plan would be three to four times a week in front of the screen, tapping my thoughts out. This will, of course, interfere with my busy social life of counting pennies, listening to obscure modern composers and wondering why my idiot roommates have better dates than me (still on my mind). So, I will keep this going.
And you can keep writing back and letting me know where I have gone wrong!
